Miko Group Supports Meals On Wheels with Annual Poinsettia Sale Deliveries (Thursday, December 25, 2008)

NORMAN, OK, March 6, 2009: In an effort to assist Norman area Meals on Wheels with their annual poinsettia sale, employees of Miko Group Inc. volunteered their time December 3rd by delivering the plants to local nursing home residents.

The sales drive, which provides funding for some 300 meals delivered to the ill, disabled and elderly residents of the community each day, allows Meals on Wheels to serve based on need and not the client’s ability to pay. In addition to volunteers who helped make the poinsettia deliveries, Miko also contributed transportation in the form of the company’s Prius which was recently converted to a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

Meals on Wheels Executive Director Lynn Haynes said nearly 2,000 plants were in need of delivery for the annual sale, also the organization’s largest fundraiser.

“When we discovered over half the number of plants ordered had to be delivered, we were so overwhelmed,” said Haynes.” The call from Miko Group definitely came at the right time and we loved their concern for the environment and the measures they have taken to save on fuel.”

Miko Group President Mark Morton said the company’s experience was extremely rewarding.

“Working with Norman Meals on Wheels during the holiday season provided Miko with a very special opportunity,” said Morton. “I hope our efforts brightened the holiday for those we assisted. It certainly did for us. There is nothing more rewarding than giving back to a community which has given our company so much.”

Junior Logistics Analyst Kim Velie said she was inspired to get involved with the Meals on Wheels campaign out of personal experience while caring for her mother.

“My mom suffered from Alzheimer’s and I had spent the past 7 years caring for her in a nursing home. The experience allowed me to get close to a lot of residents and I began to see how many seemed forgotten during the holidays and had no one to visit them,” said Velie. “After my mother passed last summer and Miko showed their support for my important time away from work, I talked to President Mark Morton about getting involved with Meals on Wheels. It was important to me to be able to make someone else’s day by visiting and sharing company with them. It’s a way of doing something good for the community and something good for the folks who need it. Showing someone they are not alone and that we care about them is truly the greatest gift.”

Tony Nguyen of Norman’s Miko Group, Inc. has been named “Music City Brand Champion” for promoting Nashville’s signature identity with its 5th Annual National Reading First Conference logo. While designing the overall theme for the 5th Annual National Reading First Conference, July 28-30, 2008, Nguyen incorporated the Music City Brand as he created the “Hard-Rock” look of the conference logo. The logo was used for signs, banners, posters, badges, tote bags, lapel pins and agendas.

The Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau recognizes businesses for their successful incorporation of Nashville’s Music Brand into marketing and promotional efforts. The Music City brand represents all genres of music - from country to blues, rock to jazz, gospel to bluegrass and classical to songwriting. To qualify as a Music Brand business, an organization must use signage, advertising, exhibits, live music offerings or even language and nametags infused with what makes Nashville Music City: the music.

The Nashville Convention & Visitor’s Bureau created its “Music City Brand Champion” program to encourage groups and conventions to incorporate music into their efforts to promote the city as a meeting destination, and to recognize entities that successfully use it.
